Haven’t reviewed a documentary on here before, so here we go..
Free Solo, which just won the Oscar for Best Documentary, is really interesting and tense. It’s about a rock climber Alex Honnold, who climbs this really fudging high El Capitan rock formation, in Yosemite National Park. What’s pretty cool about the film is that it doesn’t try to judge too much. I mean, it highlights consequences of previous free solo climbers dying, for example, but overall, directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, it mostly just follows Alex as he pursues his goal, leaving it up to us what we make of everything. But in short, I’d really recommend this, it’s not for the faint of heart, but well worth watching, and worthy of its Best Picture Oscar.
